The heat really dials up in the Smoky Mountains during the summer months. Gatlinburg summers are long and humid, with daily highs in the 80s and daily lows dipping into the 60s.

June is the mildest of summer months. We recommend bringing layers for the cool mornings and nights.

July is the peak of the summer heat, with tons of humidity and sticky air. Temperatures can climb to the 90s during July and the beginning of August.

The end of August starts to bring relief, with cooler temperatures finding their way to Gatlinburg at the end of the month.

The mountainous terrain offers unpredictable weather, with showers of rain sprinkled into sunny days. Be sure to pack a rain jacket or poncho for your outdoor adventures.

  • Gatlinburg Trail: Gatlinburg Trail is 4-mile walking path that connects Sugarland Visitor Center to River Road in Downtown Gatlinburg.

Independence Day Festivities

  • Dates: July 3-4, 2026
  • Location: Downtown Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg is the ultimate Fourth of July destination. The party starts at midnight on July 4th with the first Independence Day celebration in the nation.

Continue the celebration with Gatlinburg’s River Raft Regatta during the daytime on July 4th. Finish with the annual 4th of July fireworks and drone show, which takes place at the Space Needle.
